Black Friday lasts 4 days. Your shoppers take 41.
Most holiday shoppers aren't ready to buy on Black Friday. Here's how to capture their interest now and close the sale later.

IN SHORT
- Only 2 to 4 percent of shoppers buy on a given visit. The other 96 percent or more didn't say no. They saved a product, compared options, or waited for a size.
- Intent leakage is shopper intent your store generates but never acts on.
- Swym's Intent Yield measures how much of that interest turns into sales.
Black Friday doesn't create demand. It concentrates it.
Your holiday shoppers arrive early. Fashion and apparel stores grow users 64 percent from October into November, weeks before any discount goes live. Klaviyo found about half of American shoppers planned to start before Thanksgiving.
The season follows the same pattern every year. September loads wishlists. November converts them. December clears them, along with gift card redemptions.
This is the first link in Swym’s Intent Yield: capture. When a shopper finds a jacket they love, does your store record it, down to the exact size and color? If not, that interest leaves with them.
What to do now
Make "save" your main call to action in October, ahead of any promo messaging. POPFLEX ran an October giveaway that asked shoppers to build a wishlist to enter. Nearly 100,000 people entered, and that list drove 137 percent year-over-year growth in Klaviyo-attributed value.
Your sale runs 4 days. Your shoppers decide over 41.
Across Swym merchants, 74.7 percent of shoppers buy within 30 days of saving an item. The rest take longer, and 10.7 percent take more than 120 days. The average sits around 41 days.
Timing depends on what you sell:
- Consumer electronics: 18.6 days
- Fashion and apparel: 41.7 days
- Beauty and fitness: 63.8 days
A shopper who saves a sofa on Black Friday may not be ready until February. A 48-hour cart reminder misses them completely.
This is the convert link in Swym's Intent Yield. Can you prove a saved item turned into a sale weeks later? If your reporting stops at Cyber Monday, those sales never connect back to the save that started them.
What to do now
Stretch follow-up flows to the end of your category's window. Keep carts and saved items active longer, so the interest you paid to attract doesn't expire in a week.
The best-converting message has no discount
Back-in-stock emails convert at 6.46 percent, the highest of any automated email type (Omnisend, 2025). Shoppers asked for these alerts. The only thing between them and checkout was availability.
Deep discounts matter less than most teams expect. Klaviyo found average discounts fell from 29.6 to 26.2 percent, while consumer spending rose 11 percent. The brands with the smallest discounts grew the most, up 14 percent.
This is the engage link in Swym's Intent Yield. In fashion and footwear, a missing size is the most common reason a ready buyer leaves. A sold-out size with no way to ask for it is a leak.
What to do now
Set alerts on the exact size, color, and style each shopper asked for. Send them during Cyber Week at full price. A generic "we restocked" email wastes your strongest message.
Your store is frozen. Your data isn't.
Most teams lock their store in October and November. That protects the season. Shopper interest keeps arriving anyway.
You can still measure what your store captures. The Intent Yield Score reads your public storefront the way a shopper would. It takes 30 seconds, needs no install, and writes nothing to your store. You get your Intent Yield Score, a grade for each link (capture, engage, and convert), your biggest gap, and what closing it is worth.
What to do now
Measure your gaps before Black Friday. Fix the biggest one in January, while your 41-day window is still open.
Next steps
Shoppers signal intent either way. The only question is whether your store records it.
